Business Mom Collective in a Nutshell

Welcome to Business Mom Collective! My blog is dedicated to helping moms ditch their 9-5 and create their own businesses; turning moms into mompreneurs is my passion.

Trust me when I say there’s a better alternative than leaving your children every day to go to a job you no longer find joy in. I know you’re tired of only seeing your children for a few hours a night only to repeat it again the next day.

You want a chance to work from home and be there for your kids, but you just don’t know how to get started. Stumbling onto my blog is a great stepping stone to accomplishing your work at home goals.

More About Me

Last year I made a life-transforming move that has changed everything for me. I left the “secure” confines of a cushy job to pursue ultimate freedom… running my own business, which means I’m able to work and be home with my children.

It was one of the most liberating and exciting moments of my entire life. It was also very scary because I had no clue what I was getting myself into.

Fast forward to now, and I am happier and more excited about life and business than EVER before. This freedom has not come without a cost though. There have been MANY moments over the past year where I just felt like giving up, and I questioned everything from my confidence, intelligence, and even just my luck in general.

Of the many mistakes and errors in judgment I have made along the way, the biggest lesson I learned was that you MUST seek advice and mentoring from people who are already doing what you aspire to do.

And that’s why I’ve created this blog to help my fellow moms.

I hope you enjoy looking around!

Can I just say what a reduction to seek out someone who truly knows what theyre talking about on the internet. You definitely know how you can convey a problem to gentle and make it important. More people must read this and understand this facet of the story. I cant imagine youre not more common because you positively have the gift.

I have left a cushy HR job too. I am looking for less stressful ways to make income from home. This really helps me. Thank you

    Hello Maia.

Thank you for this informative article of yours. It’s an inspiration to all the mothers like me. Anyways, just started my exploration on how to start being VA. I would appreciate and grateful enough if you could help and maybe give some tips on how to start it.

    Lots of thank,

You’re welcome, Kristina! After deciding on what services you can offer as a virtual assistant, make sure everyone you know knows about your new venture! You never know where your first client will come from. Good luck! πŸ™‚

Thank you for the information! I’ve been researching virtual work options for over 6 months, and really appreciate the straitforward approach you use! I am still trying to figure out what type of blog I would do…very overwhelming decision lol! Any advice??

    • Maia says

You’re welcome, Nicole! Thanks for reading! Good luck with your virtual work search. As for blogging, take a look at your interests/passions and then consider problems that an audience would need help with. Best wishes!

Thank you for all the great information. I have been wanting to start working from home and have been doing research for quite awhile. I guess actually getting started working from home boils down to being unsure and also being so overwhelmed with all the infirmation out there. I don’t know why I’m so reluctant. Your post has re-inspired me. I need to remember to start small and go from there. I hope everything is still going well for you and that you are still working from home. Thank you again for your insight.

    • Maia says

Hi Jill! Thank you for stopping by! I definitely understand being overwhelmed but be careful because if you let analysis paralysis stop you from moving forward, you’ll be wasting lots of time and never gain any momentum toward accomplishing your goals. Remember it’s okay if what you try out isn’t perfect. You’ll learn something from it, and it’ll move you closer to something else that may just be the perfect fit. I’m wishing you all the best! Please reach out if you need anything else! πŸ™‚

Hi Maia πŸ™‚ I found your blog while researching Freelance Proofreading. I’m curious – in one blog post, you mention making $500 a month working 10-15 hours a week. This doesn’t come out to anywhere near $35 an hour. It’s more like $8-13 an hour. Can you help me understand what makes freelance proofreading a more lucrative or desirable work-from-home career than any of the other minimum wage virtual jobs available? Thank you so much!

    • Maia says

Hi, Marla! Thanks for stopping by! The reason I can earn *up to* $36/hr is because there are times I charge more for jobs. I charge 90Β’/page when my clients need the job completed within 24 hours. I even have a higher rate when they need it back within 12 hours. I’ve built up my speed and accuracy that I can read 40 pages an hour (sometimes more if it’s not too dense), which means I earn $36/hour (when billing my 24-hour rate.) I hope that was helpful. πŸ™‚
