As a work-at-home mompreneur, I make my living via the Internet by being a freelance proofreader, virtual assistant, and blogger. And working solely from home means I communicate with my clients and audience through words.

So how do I make sure my words stand out among the very crowded Internet space?

By making sure it’s as error-free as possible.

There’s no way my audience would resonate with my message if said message were riddled with spelling errors, grammatical mistakes, etc.

What is Grammarly Premium?

Grammarly is a program that helps detect grammar, spelling, punctuation, word choice, and style mistakes in your writing. You can use it through a web address or through Grammarly for Microsoft Office.

You copy and paste your writing into its editor, and Grammarly’s algorithms flag potential problems with your writing and offer helpful suggestions: context-specific grammar corrections, spelling, wordiness, style, punctuation, and even plagiarism.

Grammarly is not merely a spell checker.

I love that Grammarly will give you the reason why your word choice is a possible error so you can make the final decision to proceed with the correction or leave it as is.

Side note: Grammarly also offers a free browser extension for Chrome, Safari, Edge, and Firefox to detect writing errors you’d make on Gmail or social media. You can download it and ensure your family and friends won’t ridicule you for error-filled Facebook posts.

Why Do You Need It?

Nobody is perfect, and no matter how much I’ve studied and tried to perfect my writing skills, stray errors make it through. Grammarly helps to polish my writing so I can be confident with what I’m putting out on the web.

I want to make sure when I’m communicating with clients via email, writing proposals, drafting blog posts, working on marketing material that I’m putting my best foot forward. You lose all credibility when there are errors in your work.

We’ve all witnessed content with mistakes that have made us chuckle.

What Are The Positives of Grammarly Premium?

As I’ve mentioned, it does a great job detecting errors in your writing. It’s also so easy to use. You log in, copy and paste your work, and see it go to work. Here are two images from my Grammarly account.

What are the Negatives of Grammarly Premium?

If I have to nitpick, I’m not a huge fan of the copy and paste task. I think it would be great if they could integrate it with popular programs like Google docs because that’d save me a step and a lot of time.

And maybe it’s just me but the Grammarly for Microsoft Office takes too long to load and some of the time doesn’t even come up. So not sure if it’s me or if this app still needs some work. The web version always works like a charm, so that’s what I use.

How much does Grammarly Premium cost?

There are three subscriptions that you can select.

Monthly — $29.95 USD/month
Quarterly Subscription — $19.98/month (billed as one payment of $59.95 USD)
Annual Subscription — $11.66/month (billed as one payment of $139.95 USD)

I went with the annual subscription as it saves more money.

Is Grammarly Premium Worth it?

The sizeable annual payment of $139.95 can be quite the sticker shock, and you’re probably questioning if it’s worth it.

Yes, it’s worth it.

It comes down to $11.66/month. Consider this, how much money are you wasting on stuff that costs more than that? $11.66 is pretty much the amount of two trips to Starbucks or McDonald’s. And you’re never going to see any return on that investment.

I’m pretty strict with what I spend money on in the name of business. (Yes, this is a deductible business expense if you’re using it for work.) It needs to be a worthy investment. And this is. It’s already paid for itself many times over.

When I first launched my proofreading website and other marketing efforts like emails, snail mail, and drop-ins, I used Grammarly to make sure my marketing words attracted clients, and it did. Grammarly checks resumes too!

BTW, if you’re looking for an incredible web hosting company, I only recommend this one. I started with a super popular one but quickly regretted that decision, and switched to this one that I’m still using today.

You can bet I didn’t want my marketing efforts to go to waste. I didn’t want to make any word mistakes… as a proofreader… advertising myself as excellent. Would you want a proofreader who couldn’t spot her own errors? My thoughts exactly.

Thanks to Grammarly for polishing my writing, I gained several clients. One of those clients I’ve already billed to date over $2,000 (part-time). So I would say the program’s paid for itself.

Consider how much money you’re leaving on the table because of your unpolished words? Scary thought.
